Zizzi’s Italian Restaurant at The Coliseum Leisure Park

mad hatterLast month we were lucky enough to meet Santa at The Coliseum Leisure Park next to Cheshire Oaks whilst enjoying  a family meal at Frankie and Benny’s. This month we were asked back to the park to review the relatively new Zizzi’s restaurant and we had a wonderful time. We went at tea time with our two little monsters and they were perfectly happy colouring in the children’s menu’s and snacking on bread sticks. The restaurant had children’s cups and cutlery as well which – if you have small children – is unusual and an absolute godsend.

The restaurant is decorated with an Alice in Wonderland theme, there’s a Madhatter’s Teaparty in the corner with tea cups suspended from the ceiling; a hand drawn mural featuring the Cheshire Cat, Alice, Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee as well as local architecture like the clock from Chester town centre. Even the toilets have an Alice theme, all black and white checks with playing card details. We were very impressed with both the décor and the welcoming atmosphere and we will definitely be going back.

PicMonkey CollageThe food was delicious and there was a good selection of children’s options as well as some low calorie choices in case you are trying to be good for the new year. I have to admit I didn’t do well at dieting that night though. The cheesy garlic bread was very moreish and the kids ate as much as we did. My husband had Casareccia Pollo Piccante (spicy chicken with tomatoes) and I had my absolute favourite Italian pasta dish Spaghetti Pomodoro e Bufala (Spaghetti with a tomato and basil sauce and mozzarella cheese). We also tried the Rocket and Parmesan salad, kids Pizza and kids Spaghetti Bolognese (both chosen by the kids with no chance of any input from me :)). I think the only thing left on the plates was a little bit of my 2 year old’s pizza, and that’s only because she was getting very full. We finished with wonderfully calorific puddings, Chocolate Melt, Pannacotta and Chocolate and Vanilla Icecream for the kiddies. Again there is the option of lighter sorbets of coffee for those being good.

I genuinely recommend this as a great place to eat, whether you’ve been shopping at Cheshire Oaks or are going to watch a film at the cinema it’s a lovely place.

Oh I love Zizzis – I didn’t realise it was so childfriendly though as never tried to take the little ones. And I’m also loving the Alice in Wonderland theme – if only all restaurants could have literary themes – Harry Potter would be good – imagine dining in The Leaky Cauldron!
