Wow! wasn’t Andy Murray amazing in the finals today! I don’t often find time to watch Wimbledon but I do like tennis and we are encouraging our son to enjoy the game. One of the classic things people associate with Wimbledon is strawberries so I decided to have a go at something I love….chocolate dipped strawberries.
I tried making them two different ways:
Simple chocolate strawberries:
- Wash and dry the strawberries – if they have been kept in the fridge the chocolate will set faster.
- Place 250g in a microwavable container (deep enough to dip strawberries in) and melt at full power using 15 second bursts – stir between each 15 second burst. Once the chocolate is mostly melted simply continue to stir until the chocolate is completely melted.
- Dip the strawberries in the chocolate and place to set on a piece of tin foil.
- I set my strawberries in the fridge although chocolate experts would advise against this because it can cause the chocolate to bloom.
- Once the chocolate has set peel off the tin foil and serve. (Insert tennis related joke here).
Assorted chocolate strawberries:
- You will need either some floristry foam or half a melon to set the strawberries on.
- Place your assorted toppings in shallow bowls or on side plates. I used-
Pink sugar crystals
White sugar pearls
Freeze dried strawberries
Butterscotch chips
White chocolate stars - Place a cocktail stick into the top of each strawberry and dip into the melted chocolate allowing excess chocolate to drip back into the pot.
- Roll the strawberry in your chosen topping.
- Push the cocktail stick into your floristry foam / melon to allow the chocolate to set evenly all over.
- I set my strawberries in the fridge although chocolate experts would advise against this because it can cause the chocolate to bloom.
- Once the chocolate has set remove the strawberries from the cocktail sticks and serve.
Look out for a cake based on the ideas in this post in the next week or so! *Update see my ultimate summer cake with chocolate strawberries on top here*
